Wednesday:  The Indo-European Migrations
  • Homework (due Thursday):  read pages 25-29 (stop at "The Rise of New Empires") and write a response to the following:  in what ways were the Hebrews influenced by Mesopotamian culture?  In what ways were the Hebrews unique compared to other Mesopotamians?
Thursday:  Phoenicians and Hebrews
  • Homework (due Monday):  read pages 29-32 and write a response to the following:  give five characteristics of the Assyrian military; in what ways does the Assyrian army resemble a modern army?

  • Homework (due Wednesday):  Book Review Books due; read pages 425-430 (stop at "The Catholic Reformation") and write a response to the following:  how and why did the Protestant Reformation succeed?

  • Homework (due Monday):  read pages 430-433 and write a response to the following:  in what ways did the Protestant Reformation influence/change the Catholic Church in early modern Europe?

United States History

Tuesday (5th period)/Wednesday (6th period):  The Puritans
  • Homework (5th period, due Wednesday; 6th period due Thursday):  read pages 69-77 (stop at The Imperial Slave Economy) and write a response to the following:  how did events in England impact the colonies during the late 1600's?
  • Book review books due on Wednesday for both 5th and 6th periods

  • Homework, due Monday:  read pages 78-89 (stop at "William Byrd and the Rise of the Southern Gentry) and write a response to the following:  what were the major economic and social impacts of slavery in the colonies?  Could the colonies have survived without slavery?  Why or why not?  Explain.
