Ancient World

Monday:  The Land Between the Rivers
  • Homework (due Tuesday):  read pages 13-16 (stop at "Egyptian Civilization") and write a response to the following:  what aspect of Mesopotamian culture do you find the most fascinating?  Why?

  • Homework (due Wednesday):  read pages 16-19 (stop at "Society and Economy in Ancient Egypt") and write a response to the following:  in what ways did the geography of the Nile River valley cause life in Egypt to be different from life in Mesopotamia?
Wednesday:  The Book Review Project; The Gift of the Nile
  • Homework (due Thursday):  read pages 19-23 (stop at "The Spread of Egyptian Influence:  Nubia" and write a response to the following:  how did the New Kingdom differ from the previous Kingdoms?  What caused this change?
Thursday:  The New Kingdom
  • Homework (due Friday):  read pages 23-25 (stop at "Territorial States in Western Asia") and write a response to the following:  in what ways did Egypt influence Nubia?  In what ways did the Hittites influence Mesopotamia?

Monday:  Exploration and Conquest
  • Homework (due Tuesday):  read pages 406-413 (stop at "Southeast Asia in the Era of the Spice Trade") and write a response to the following:  what were the major characteristics of the European slave trade?  What impact(s) did the trade have upon Africa?
Tuesday:  The Slave Trade
  • Homework (due Wednesday):  read pages 413-419 (to the end of the chapter) and write a response to the following:  what were the major social, cultural, and economic characteristics of Southeast Asia during this time?  How does this region compare to Africa and the Americas?
Wednesday:  The Book Review Project and Southeast Asia
  • Homework (due Friday):  read pages 422-425 (stop at "Martin Luther and the Reformation in Germany") and write a response to the following:  identify the major changes that took place in Europe in the 16th century.  Which of those changes do you think was the most important, and why?

United States History

Monday:  New Spain, France, and England
  • Homework (due Tuesday--5th period/Wednesday--6th period):  read pages 52-57 (stop at Puritanism and Witchcraft) and write a response to the following:  what were the major characteristics of Puritan society?  Do any of these characteristics remain in modern American society today?  Explain.
Tuesday--5th period/Wednesday--6th period:  Puritan New England
  • Homework (due Wednesday--5th period/Thursday--6th period):  read pages 57-63 (stop at "The Human and Environmental Impact of the Fur Trade) and write a response to the following:  what does the "witch craze" say about Puritan society in New England?  Do "witch hunts" still occur today?  Explain.
Wednesday--5th period/Thursday--6th period:  The Book Review Project/Witches and Natives
  • Homework (due Friday):  read pages 63-67 and write a response to the following:  what was the extent of the environmental impact/social impact of the fur trade?  What lessons does this have for us today?
