Monday:  Introduction to Ancient China

Tuesday:  From Shang to Zhou
  • Homework (due Wednesday):  read pages 71-77 (stop at "Legalism) and write a response to the following:  what are the major characteristics of early Chinese religious and philosophical belief, and how did Confucius expand upon them?

Wednesday:  Beginning Chinese Philosophy
  • Homework (due Thursday):  read pages 77-78 and write a response to the following:  how did Legalism and Taoism compare with Confucianism?  Of three philosophies, which do you find to be the most appealing, and why?

Friday: The Period of The Warring States

  • Homework (due Monday):  read pages 79-82 and write a response to the following:  how did the Qin restore order in China?  Would you have wanted to live under the Qin government?  Why or why not?

  • Homework (due Wednesday):  begin chapter 17, read pages 479-484 (stop at "China on the Eve of Western Onslaught) and write a response to the following:  how did the Qing Dynasty differ from the Ming Dynasty?  What enabled the Qing Dynasty to overthrow the Ming?

  • Homework (due Monday):  read pages 484-492 and write a response to the following:  what major changes did China undergo during the Qing Dynasty?  What caused those changes to happen, and which, do you think, was the most significant?  Explain.

United States History

Monday:  The Stamp Act

Tuesday 5th period/Wednesday 6th period:  The Townshend Act
  • Homework (due Wednesday, 5th period/due Thursday, 6th period):  read pages 149-154 (stop at "The Continental Congress Responds) and write a response to the following:  what was the purpose of the Tea Act, and how did it lead to the Coercive Acts? 

Wednesday 5th period/Thursday 6th period:  The Boston Tea Party

Friday:  No Class due to Parent Conferences Early Dismissal
