Ancient World 4th Period

Monday:  Buddhism
  • Homework (due Tuesday):  Work on your book review project
Tuesday:  Culture and Society in India 
  • Homework (due Thursday):  read pages 64-68 and write a response to the following:  
    • in what ways was the formation of civilization in China similar to other areas we've studied?  In what ways was it different?
Wednesday:  9th Grade Day Away

Thursday:  Early China
  • Homework (due Friday):  work on your book review project.  Optional rough draft due tomorrow.
Friday:  The Bow in World History
  • Homework (due Monday):  read pages 69-77 (stop at "Legalism") and write a response to the following: 
    • who was Confucious and what was the purpose of his teachings?

Monday:  Early Modern Islam:  The Ottoman Empire
  • Homework (due Wednesday):  read pages 457-464 (stop at "The Grandeur of the Mughals") and write a response to the following:
    • How did society in the Ottoman Empire differ from that in the Safavid Empire?  What caused these differences?
Wednesday:  The Ottomans and the Safavids
  • Homework (due Thursday):  read pages 464-470(stop at "The Impact of European Power in India") and write a response to the following:
    • What specific challenges faced the rulers of the Mughal Dynasty and how did they address them?  Which ruler do you think was the most successful and why?
Thursday:  Mughal India
  • Homework (due Friday):  read pages 473 (begin with "Society Under the Mughals")-477 and write a response to the following:
    • what were the major influences on Mughal society and culture?  Which Mughal cultural achievement to consider to be the most significant and why?
    • Optional book review rough drafts due.
Friday:  Mughal Culture and Society
  • Homework (due Monday):  read pages 479-482 (stop at "The Greatness of the Qing") and write a response to the following:
    • How receptive was the Ming Dynasty to the West?  To what extent, if any, did the West play in the collapse of the Ming Dynasty?
