Fortifications
Dover Castle
Your project this marking period is to construct a model of a historical fortification. Your model may depict a fortification (or part of a fortification) from any time period but it must be based on an ACTUAL historical fortification.
There are no size restrictions on the model itself other than your ability to transport it to and through the school.
Your model should also include a brief written description of the fortification your model represents that includes the following information:
- When the fortification was constructed/time period it is from
- Culture/society/military it belonged to
- The building materials used for the actual fortification (wood, stone, etc.)
- Strengths and weaknesses of this fortification
- A photograph or image of the actual fortification
- Citations for any sources used and credit given to the source of the image.
Your grade for this project will based on the accuracy and quality of the model itself along with meeting the requirements of the written description.
Some examples to get you thinking:
- Ancient wall systems (Jericho)
- Chinese and Roman walls
- Roman forts
- Medieval fortifications
- Motte and Bailey
- Castles
- Early modern fortifications--the artillery fortress/trace italienne
- Japanese castles
