Ancient World

Monday:  Introduction to Ancient Rome
 
Homework (due Tuesday):  read pages 125-128 (stop at "The Roman Conquest of the Mediterranean") and write a response to the following:  identify the major parts of the Roman Republican government and the role it performed.  How was the Roman Republican government similar to our our modern republican government?
 
Tuesday:  The Roman Republic
 
Homework (due Wednesday):  read pages 128-129 (stop at "The Decline and Fall of the Roman Republic") and write a response to the following: what were the major characteristics of the Roman army discussed in this reading, and how did the Roman army compare to the armies of ancient Greece?

Friday:  The Punic Wars, part II

Homework (due Monday):  read pages 129-132 (stop at "The Roman Empire at It's Height") and write a response to the following:  how did Rome's successes after the Punic Wars lead to the collapse of the Roman Republic?  Which cause(s) do you think had the biggest role in the collapse of the Roman Republic? 


Modern World

Monday:  Introduction to the Industrial Revolution--The Agricultural Revolution

Homework (due Tuesday):  read pages 543-547 and write a response to the following:  what characteristics did Great Britain possess that enabled it to begin the Industrial Revolution?  What did other places learn from the British?

Tuesday:  Industrialization in Britain

Homework (due Wednesday):  read pages 548-552 and write a response to the following:  how was society impacted/changed by the Industrial Revolution?  In your view were people typically better off or worse off because of industrialization?


 Wednesday:  Industrialization and Society

Homework (due Friday):  read pages 553-557 and write a response to the following:  how did the Industrial Revolution change/evolve into the mid-late 19th century?  What aspects of industrialization change?  what aspects stayed the same?

Friday:  Industrialization in the 19th century

Homework (due Monday):  review chapter 19, pages 542-557, for the upcoming test (test date TBA)


United States History

Monday:  Recapping the Industrial Revolution in the United States

Homework (due Tuesday 5th period/Wednesday 6th period):  read pages 280 ("The Market Revolution")-290 (stop at "The Benevolent Empire") and write a response to the following:  how did the industrial revolution change the United States economically, environmentally, and socially?  To what extent are these changes still visible to day?

Homework (due Wednesday 5th period/due Thursday 6th period):  read pages 301-308 (stop at "The Jacksonian Presidency") and write a response to the following:  how did American politics change during the 1820's?  What caused these changes and could they have been prevented?
